PermaCrete TechTips

Q:Can a PermaCrete skim coat and PermaSeal Stain Sealer be applied to an exterior concrete sidewalk without appyling a texture coat?
A:Yes. However, a "thicker" (1/8" minimum) skim coat should be applied to prevent "shadowing" of crack repairs or other surface characteristics that may show through the finished surface.

Q:How can an unsealed (smooth) power-trowled concrete walkway be prepared (without grinders, acid, or the use of chemical strippers) for the application of PermaCrete in a hospital interior environment?
A:Apply Blue Nitro to the concrete surface with a mop. Work concrete surface with a "stiff bristle" plastic brush and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Repeat this process until all dust, dirt and other contaminanants are removed from the surface. Paint the surface with 1 coat of Matrix Bonding Additive or (PermaWeld Mastic), and let it dry prior to skim coat application.

Q:What is the best time to begin the troweling process when using PermaGrit (or TropicGrit, or PolarGrit) Matrix Mix to achieve a "worm" finish texture coat on a vertical surface?
A:The optimal point to begin the troweling process is when the texture coat has become "tacky" to the touch. (Note: If the Matrix Mix is troweled (textured) when it's wet, the surface may smear rather than "worm". Also, if the Matrix is troweled when it's too dry, small portions of the surface may "roll up" and delaminate from the surface during the troweling process.
