A Sign of the PermaCrete Times

Signs tell us many things. They tell us where we are...where we want to go... who someone is...even what's a bargain. Corporations and small businesses use a logo to express their identity and to attract customers. Identity. Business. Logo. Each is the purpose of a sign. However, merely having a sign is not enough. The sign has to be well executed, because the sign is an important way the public judges the sign's owner.

Moisture Detection

ASTM D 4263, "Standard Test Method for Indicating Moisture in Concrete by the Plastic Sheet Method," can be used to check the moisture content in concrete. This method involves taping an 18-inch by 18-inch sheet of clear, four-mil-thick polyethylene to the concrete surface. The sheet should remain in place at least 16 hours. If moisture collects under the plastic sheet during this time, it is an indication that the concrete contains too much moisture for the application of most protective coatings. On the larger surfaces, this test should be repeated at several points because the moisture content may not be uniform throughout the concrete.
