Mold - The Challenge And The Choice
Homeowners and builders alike face a continuous battle with mold. Although mold is a naturally occurring component of the ecosystem, in a building environment mold is not as welcome as, say, penicillin, one of its more heralded forms. Although the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta has found no direct link between mold and serious illnesses, nevertheless, mold can contribute to many health problems, particularly upper respiratory problems affecting children, senior citizens, and people with weakened immune systems.
Basically, where there is water, there is mold. Whether in a basement or a shower stall, water creates the environment upon which mold thrives. But, water is not enough to create mold by itself. Mold needs a food source such as wood, carpet, and dust. More and more builders are turning to concrete to help eliminate such food sources for the consumer's common enemy...mold. Exterior construction using concrete and foam can rob mold of its essential life-support. However, more remedies are needed and that's when PermaCrete presents a viable and important deterrent to the mold challenge.
The strong, non-pourus surface provided by PermaCrete is proven to resist mildew and moisture. Tests have clearly established the moisture and mildew-resistance credentials of PermaCrete (ASTM D2247, ASTMG-21, and Mil 810-B). Application of PermaCrete over a properly prepared concrete or foam surface can be an effective tool in the continuing battle to control moisture and eliminate mold. More and more builders are choosing PermaCrete to meet the serious problem of mold in the world in which we work and live.
