Five Common Technical Questions
Question: How long does new concrete need to cure before applying PermaCrete?
Answer: New concrete should cure for 7 days prior to a PermaCrete application (However, in very hot temperatures of 90ºF - 100ºF, PermaCrete can be applied after only 3 days).
Question:Can PermaSeal Stain Sealer be repaired if damage occurs to the surface of PermaCrete?
Answer:Yes. However, if underlying damage has occured to the PermaCrete Matrix surface, repairs should be made prior to re-application of Stain Sealer. Suitable Colorant should be added to the repair mixture of Matrix Mix.
Then, matching Stain Sealer should be re-applied in the same manner (airless sprayer, roller or brush) as the initial application. (Note: Freshly applied Stain Sealer will look brighter than the rest of the surface area until the new Stain Sealer was been weathered.)
Question:Can PermaSeal Stain Sealer be applied over solvent base Concrete Clear Sealer?
Answer:Concrete Clear Sealer is a solvent-base sealer that dries to a clear, abrasion resistant film. Since PermaSeal Stain Sealer is a water-base sealer, it cannot penetrate or adhere properly to the solvent-base sealer and may later delaminate from the solvent-sealer surface.
Question:Can a "broom finish" be applied to a PermaCrete texture coat on a horizontal concrete surface?
Answer:Yes. A medium bristle, concrete broom can be used to create a broom finish if it is pulled across the Matrix surface using only light pressure because Matrix does not have the surface depth of poured concrete. (Note: The Matrix should be tacky before application of the broom finish. Then, applications of PermaCrete Stain Sealer or Clear Sealer can be applied to the broom finish surface.
Question:Will PermaCrete harm marine wildlife such as fish when installed in a concrete pond?
Answer:PermaCrete can be applied to a concrete pond provided PermaThane CRU-750 is applied as the sealer in the pond to minimize growth of algae, bacteria and other natural contaminants that are detrimental to marine life. (Note: Urethanes and acrylic sealers contain gases that could be damaging to marine life during the cure cycle, but not after full cure when water and fish are placed in the pond. PermaThane is fully cured after 96 hours at 72ºF).
