At the recent fall meeting of the Insulating Concrete Form Association in Indianapolis, its Executive Director Joseph Lyman delivered an informative presentation regarding projections and statistics relative to the growing ICF industry. The following are excerpts from Mr. Lyman's presentation, and we are grateful for the Association's permission to share them with our newsletter readers.
- ICFs have grown from 7,500,000 square feet in 1994 to over 56,000,000 in 2005, resulting in a 650% increase in the ICF market in a decade.
- The use of ICFs commercially has grown from 19% in 2000 to 28% in 2005.
- The ICF residential market grew 3.2% in the first half of 2005, as compared with the same period in 2004.
- The ICF commercial market grew 50% in the first half of 2005, as compared with the same period in 2004.
- In the first half of 2005 the ICF market was 72% residential and 28% commercial.
- Based on past trends, the ICF market will grow to 64,500,000 square feet for 2005, a 15% increase over 2004.
With supplies of natural gas being low and production of gasoline and heating oil down, by necessity greater emphasis and attention will be given to the use of more energy efficient wall systems such as ICFs. The recent devastation by powerful natural disasters will cause the construction industry and the insurance companies to focus on stronger and more durable building materials and techniques for both homes and businesses. ICFs will definitely play a greater, long range role in the future due to these developments.
